Accelerated BSN to MSN Programs

To begin working as a registered nurse (RN) or a licensed practical nurse (LPN) you must undergo specific training and pass the NCLEX examination managed by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing. To enhance your career as a nurse you may want to obtain a Master of Science in Nursing degree. Accelerated BSN to MSN programs provide necessary training to earn a degree within a shorter amount of time.

    • The University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing offers an accelerated BSN/MSN program for students ready to choose a nursing specialty. Within this program students choose between two BSN study durations: the 27-month BSN program or the 18-month BSN program. Each program features different eligibility requirements; check with the School of Nursing course prerequisite requirements to determine which program you are eligible for. After completing the BSN program, students immediately begin the MSN program. As of 2010, the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing offers 19 MSN majors and 13 MSN minors. As of 2010, tuition for the accelerated BSN is $53,250 per year. This tuition is effective for residents and non-residents. Tuition cost for the MSN portion of this program is $36,488 per academic year, as of 2010. To apply, applicants must submit an application, two essays, two recommendations, official college transcripts and GRE general test scores.

    Medical University of South Carolina College of Nursing

    • The Accelerated BSN/MSN program offered by Medical University of South Carolina College of Nursing takes up to three years to complete and provides students with the ability to choose between nine different programs. As a student within this program you must complete the BSN portion as a full-time student; however, the MSN portion can be completed on a part-time basis. Once enrolled, students do not need to reapply for their MSN degree. Upon completing the BSN portion, students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and pass the NCLEX examination to begin MSN courses. Along with the standard application, students must include official college transcripts, three references, resume, one-page essay and the GRE test score. As of 2010, the BSN program tuition for South Carolina residents is $6,962 per term while non-residents must pay $11,133 per term. The MSN program tuition for residents is $7,355 per term or $8,685 per term for non-residents.

    University of South Alabama College of Nursing

    • The Accelerated BSN/MSN program at the University of South Alabama College of Nursing is for students who already possess a bachelor's degree in a non-nursing field. This Accelerated BSN/MSN program is 24 months long. Within the first year of study students study foundational curriculum. Before students can begin the second year of study they must pass the NCLEX examination, which is the national RN licensure exam. To apply for this program, students must have a bachelor's degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Applicants must also have taken the required prerequisite courses. As of 2010, the tuition rate for Alabama residents is $162.00 per credit hour for BSN courses and $218.00 per credit hour for MSN courses. Non-resident students must pay $340.00 per credit hour for BSN courses and $460.00 per credit hour for MSN courses.
