Florida RN to MSN Programs

Registered nurses (RNs) are highly-skilled nurses that work in a wide variety of health care settings. Many RNs work in a hospital setting where they carry out various patient care functions under the orders of a physician. According to Salary.com, as of November 2009, median annual salaries for RNs range from about $53,000 to about $80,000. There are a few schools in Florida that offer RN to Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) bridge programs--accelerated program that allows a registered nurse with an associate degree in nursing to graduate with a master degree.
  1. University of South Florida

    • University of South Florida is located in North Tampa and offers a fully-accredited RN to MSN program that will lead to a Master of Science degree in nursing. This program is completed in two phases. In the first phase, you will complete all of the nursing bachelor degree course work and any missing prerequisites and general education courses. The second phase consists of all of the graduate course work. Students will participate in coursework via classroom lectures, lab and clinical settings, and online courses. Aside from the routine RN coursework, classes in the bridge program also include courses such as physical examination and assessment, leadership and education for transitions, clinical experience in health assessment and community and public health. It is possible to obtain a bachelor degree from this program with a little more coursework.

    University of Central Forida

Those programs include nursing leadership and management, family nurse practitioner, adult nurse practitioner, pediatric nurse practitioner, clinical nurse leader, nurse educator, and clinical nurse specialist. Each program requires a different amount of credits to graduate and classes vary in each program. However, you will start each program by taking bachelor-level courses and then you will advance to taking courses that will count as credit towards the master degree. This program also features bridge classes such as nursing research, dimensions of professional nursing practice, and public health nursing. Students that graduate from either RN/MSN program will receive a bachelor degree once bachelor coursework is completed, and a master degree when they complete the entire program.
