Tidewater Community College offers an accredited associate's degree in nursing. The five-semester program includes classroom instruction and clinical laboratory practice using state-of-the-art patient care simulators and laboratory equipment. Tidewater Community College accepts two groups of students in the fall semester and two groups again in the spring semester. Graduates of the program are eligible to sit for their RN licensure.

Riverside Health System offers an accredited, one-year licensed practical nursing program. Eligibility requirements include a high school diploma or GED equivalent, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification and two references (professional or academic). Once accepted, the program consists of classroom instruction in the areas of human anatomy, medical terminology, pharmacology and nursing theory. Toward the end of the program, students will have the opportunity to complete several clinical rotations in the areas of obstetrics, pediatrics, mental health and geriatrics. Graduates of the program are eligible to sit for their licensed practical nurse (LPN) exam.

Piedmont Virginia Community College offers an accredited associate degree in nursing. The two-year degree has a mix of general education courses, such as psychology and sociology along with core nursing courses, such as human anatomy, pharmacology and nursing theory. Toward the end of the program, students are required to complete several clinical and surgical rotations in the areas of pediatrics, mental health, neonatology and maternity. Clinical rotation sites include Martha Jefferson Hospital, University of Virginia Health System, Kluge Children's Rehabilitation Center and Augusta Medical Center. Financial aid in the form of grants, scholarships, student loans and work-study programs are available. Graduates of the program are eligible to sit for their RN licensure.

Suffolk Public Schools Sentara Obici Hospital offers an accredited, one-year licensed practical nursing program. To be admitted into the program, individuals will need a high school diploma or GED equivalent, three references (professional or academic) and a personal interview with the program director. Applications are accepted from June to October and classes begin in February the following year. Only 25 students are accepted each year. After graduation, students are eligible to sit for their LPN license.
