LPN Programs in Delaware

Licensed practical nurses are nursing professionals that provide bedside care to patients in a variety of medical settings. LPNs work under the supervision of registered nurses, physician assistants and physicians. Becoming an LPN requires approximately a year of nursing school and the passing of the national exam. Several schools in Delaware offer LPN programs.
  1. Delaware Institute of Health Sciences

    • Delaware Institute of Health Sciences is located in Wilmington. The LPN program at DIHS is 12 months long and is comprised of courses in human growth and development, pharmacology, nursing fundamentals, microbiology, nutrition, medical-surgical nursing and psychiatric nursing, among others. Those who complete the program are eligible to sit for the national practical nursing exam.

      Students who are interested in the practical nursing program at DIHS must have a high school diploma or GED, and they must be CPR certified. Students must also complete a health, drug and background check prior to starting the program. Tuition assistance is available.

    Delaware Skills Center

    • Delaware Skills Center, located in Wilmington, offers an 18-month practical nursing program. The program is comprised of classroom and clinical hours, where students work beside registered nurses, physicians and other medical professionals. Upon completion of the program at DSC, students are required to take the national certification exam and work full time for nine months.

      Classes take place every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., and every other Saturday from 6:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. To gain admission into the program, you must have prior health care experience, be at least 20 years old, be CPR certified and pass background, health and drug tests. Financial aid is not available.

    Delaware Technical & Community College

    • Delaware Technical & Community College is located in Dover. Students who are enrolled in the LPN program at DTCC are awarded a certificate in practical nursing after completing the program. Full- and part-time options are available to fit working students' schedules. Courses in the program include diseases and disorders, legal responsibilities, mental health nursing, pediatric nursing and maternal nursing.

      To gain admission into the program, you must have a high school diploma or GED. Financial aid is available.
