Athletic Programs at Virginia Community Colleges

Community colleges offer two-year associate's degree programs in just about every undergraduate major, plus standard college services such as tutoring, financial aid and honor societies. Students who attend community colleges need not miss out on rooting for their favorite sport or playing on a team; many community colleges offer their own formal athletic programs which compete against other schools. Colleges may also offer intramural sports, which don't require tryouts or academic restrictions. Athletic-minded students in Virginia will find many sports options at the state's community colleges.
  1. Northern Virginia Community College

    • Students interested in competing on a college team can find sports such as basketball, volleyball, soccer, ice hockey and lacrosse at Northern Virginia Community College. These are competitive programs with tryouts, physical exams and academic eligibility requirements. The college also offers intramural athletics. Intramurals are student-run clubs that may have weekly practices and scrimmages, but don't require a tryout or minimum grade point average. Northern Virginia students participate in intramurals in flag football, bowling, basketball, softball, golf and volleyball. Students interested in fitness can take advantage of the aerobics and cycling classes plus a gym and weight room.
