Community Colleges near Emporia, Virginia

With a population of 5,700, the City of Emporia, Virginia, is small in size but rich in educational opportunities. In addition to being close to several K-12 public schools and large universities, Emporia is also located near Southside Virginia Community College, Vance-Granville Community College, Richard Bland Community College, and Halifax Community College. Emporia residents can easily take advantage of the community colleges in North Carolina because the city lies eight miles from the state border.

    • In addition to its Emporia campus, Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) has seven other locations: Alberta, Blackstone, Chase City, Cumberland, Keysville, South Boston and South Hill. As of February, 2011, about 8,000 students currently attend SVCC. This community college offers associate degrees and certificates in business technology, engineering and industrial technology, health technology, public service technology, career studies and university parallel programs, such as education and general studies.     Richard Bland College

    • Richard Bland College (RBC) is part of The College of William and Mary in Virginia. Since its founding in 1960, RBC has provided programs that allow students to transfer to a four-year university or enter an entry-level career position. RBC offers associate in arts degrees and associate in science degrees. More than 90 percent of RBC graduates transfer to a four-year university. RBC has established agreements with 15 Virginia universities that guarantee its graduates automatic admission.

    Vance-Granville Community College

    • Vance-Granville Community College (VGCC), located in North Carolina, offers associate degrees, diplomas and certificates in 40 curriculum programs. These programs are categorized into three divisions: Arts and Sciences, Health Sciences, and Business and Applied Technologies. The main VGCC campus is located between Oxford and Henderson off Interstate 85. Classes are also held at the South Campus, Warren Campus and Franklin County Campus.

    • Halifax Community College (HCC) is located in Weldon, North Carolina. HCC has 50 different programs in five areas: associate degree programs, diploma programs, certificate programs, high school equivalency programs and extensive programs.
