Community Colleges in AZ

As of 2011, there are 21 community colleges located in Arizona, including 10 in the Maricopa Community College District, which serves the greater Phoenix area. These colleges specialize in vocational training, associate degrees and four-year college transfer programs. Often, community colleges are chosen by freshman and sophomore students as a way to save on the more expensive tuition and fees charged at four-year schools.
  1. Mohave Community College

    • Mohave Community College was founded in 1971 and, because of its large service area, operates four campuses, located in Bullhead City, Kingman, Colorado City and Lake Havasu City. The school is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, and its nursing program is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission and is approved by the Arizona State Board of Nursing. Tuition for the 2010-11 school year is $69 per credit hour for Arizona residents and $207 per credit hour for nonresidents.

    Northland Pioneer College

    • Northland Pioneer College was founded in 1974 and operates campuses in Holbrook, Show Low, Winslow and Snowflake. The school offers associate's degree programs in several disciplines, including business, science and general studies. Tuition for the 2010-11 school year is $56 per credit hour for Arizona residents and $95 per credit hour for nonresidents. Students 60 years old and older who are residents of the state may qualify for a 50 percent reduction in tuition. NPC offers several types of course-delivery methods, including online, traditional classroom, interactive video and audio.

    Glendale Community College

    • Founded in 1965, Glendale Community College enrolls more than 32,000 students and offers educational programs in a variety of disciplines, including biology, fire science, video production technology and administration of justice. The school offers 15 intercollegiate athletic programs, including football, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross-country and men's and women's soccer. As of 2011, GCC is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and operates three campuses, each in the Phoenix area. Tuition for the 2010-11 school year at GCC is $71 per credit hour for Maricopa County residents, $96 per credit hour for out-of-county and out-of-state students taking less than seven units per semester and $312 per credit hour for nonresidents of the state and county who are taking more than seven units per semester.

    Pima Community College

    • Located in Tucson, Pima Community College was founded in 1969 and offers seven types of associate's degrees and 195 transfer and occupational programs in a variety of disciplines, including social sciences, public safety, computer information technology and communication. The school competes in 14 intercollegiate sports, including football, men's and women's golf, baseball, softball and men's and women's basketball. PCC also offers an intramural sports program that includes 3-on-3 basketball, chess and Texas Hold 'Em poker.
