ECPI College of Technology offers a diploma program in practical nursing. Located in west Virginia Beach, this programs offers a comprehensive approach to practical nursing. Students enrolling in this program will learn basic nursing concepts and how to work in different health care settings. Students participate in classroom lectures and work in clinical settings to gain experience and to complete the program. Successful completion of this program allows students to take the state LPN certification exam to become a licensed practical nurse. To enroll in EPCI, students must contact the school and then go through the admission process with the guidance of an admissions counselor. To be eligible for the LPN program, you must have a high school diploma, fill out an application and take an assessment test.

Virginia Beach Technical and Career Education is located in south Virginia Beach. This is an 18-month program that is available to high school seniors and adults wishing to be an LPN. After completing the first nine months of the program, students will be able to take an exam to become a certified nursing assistant (CNA). Upon completion of the program, students may take the state exam to become an LPN. Students will learn various nursing concepts in classroom and lab settings and on-site at hospitals for real clinical experiences. To apply, simply go to the school and fill out an application. Adults enrolling in the program must have a high school diploma or equivalent and may have to take an assessment test, depending on their prior education. Completion of this program also allows students to enroll in an accelerated or modified RN program at Virginia community colleges and universities.

Norfolk Technical Center is located right outside Virginia Beach, on the far east side of Norfolk. This school is right on the other side of Interstate 64 from Virgina Beach. Some of the classes that you will take in this 18-month program include nursing skills and concepts; body structure and function; and pediatric, geriatric and surgical nursing. This program is open to high school seniors and adults. High school students must have a minimum 2.25 GPA. Adults must have a high school diploma, pass an entrance test, participate in an interview, and provide three professional references. After completing the first nine months of this program, students are eligible to take a CNA certification exam. After successful completion of the entire program, students are then eligible to take the state LPN certification exam.
