LPN Programs in WI

The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development predicts that the demand for licensed practical nurses (LPNs) in the state will increase by more than 11 percent from 2006 through 2016. To gain the necessary licensing to enter the field, prospective LPNs must first complete a training program approved by the Wisconsin Board of Nursing. A number of private and public colleges throughout the state offer such programs.
  1. Milwaukee Area Technical College

    • With branches throughout the greater Milwaukee area, the public, two-year, Milwaukee Area Technical College serves more than 56,000 students. The college offers a one-year practical nursing diploma program for would-be LPNs at its downtown campus. Admission to the program is competitive; students must have completed a course on nurse assisting and have previously taken a college-level course in biology to qualify for consideration. Those admitted to the program complete classes in communication, pharmacology, anatomy, psychology and health promotion. Students complete three clinical rotations prior to graduation. Approximately 18 percent of students, around 10,000 people, at Milwaukee Area Tech receive some form of financial aid, according to the college's website. Job placement assistance is available. An on-site day care provides low-cost child care for students' children.
