Home Study LPN to RN Programs

There are various reasons why many licensed practical nurses, or LPNs, want to become RNs, or registered nurses, though additional pay and greater opportunity for advancement are often primary reasons. If you live too far away from a college campus to make a frequent commute to class, or otherwise cannot attend a traditional classroom for your lectures, you will find that a variety of colleges offer home study options for LPNs to become RNs. Though clinical rotations will have to be completed in person, coursework can be completed via distance learning.
  1. Indiana State University

    • Indiana State University, a public institution, offers an online LPN to RN program leading to the completion of a bachelor of science in nursing degree. Students must complete 96 college credits in coursework including nursing leadership, reflective nursing and professional nursing. Typically, students take two to four years to complete this program. Classes are conducted online, allowing students to study from the comfort of their homes.

    University of Rio Grande

    • LPNs living in Ohio, West Virginia and Kentucky can take advantage of the University of Rio Grande's online LPN to RN Advanced Placement Track program. This online program allows students to complete lectures and virtual laboratory assignments online. Clinical experiences, however, must be completed at brick and mortar facilities within a 60-mile radius of the university's campus. The college will work with students to arrange clinical rotations that are conveniently located for the students.
