Masonary Trade Schools

Masonry is defined as the building of structures from individual units with mortar. Common units are brick and stone. Brick masons are responsible for different types of work with varying complexity ranging from simple walkways to high-rise buildings. Many brick masons may take courses before being hired or as a part of job training.
  1. Maine School of Masonry

    • The Maine School of Masonry is designed to develop students into brick masons with the skills and knowledge of the material to provide gainful employment. The school offers a one-year Mason Apprentice Certificate program running daily (September to June), including a wide range of masonry topics and concerns. To pass, students must complete 1,500 hours of instruction as well as a variety of assigned projects during the course. Students must be 18 or older with a basic foundation in reading, writing and math.

    Pennsylvania College of Technology

    • The Pennsylvania College of Technology offers an A.A.S. degree in building construction with an emphasis on masonry that can serve as the education you need to be a brick mason. The program is a blend of technology and management skills using on- and off-campus full-size projects to develop skills. Coursework also includes estimating, drafting and print reading. Students who earn the A.A.S. can use the degree as a foundation for the pursuit of a B.S. as well.

    Masonry Institute of Michigan

    • The Masonry Institute of Michigan is dedicated to the promotion and advancement of brick masons and the masonry industry. Founded in 1958, the school strives to provide the best up-to-date design information for architects and structural engineers. Membership benefits include continuing education programs (including university- and college-level education) as well as professional services. Additionally, the school has a wide array of professional mason members with contact services to help brick masons find work and scholarships to help with tuition payment.
