LPN Programs in Richmond, VA

While Virginia is known for being close to the nation's capital and for fresh seafood from Chesapeake Bay, there is also a thriving cultural and educational scene there. In particular, the state's capital, Richmond, offers a range of educational institutions. Many of the community colleges and technical schools in the area offer LPN programs.

    • J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College is near downtown Richmond. JSRCC offers many educational programs for jobs in the health-care industry. Among those programs, JSRCC offers a certificate program in practical nursing. The program covers a broad range of nursing subjects, including anatomy and physiology, nursing skills, nutrition and pharmacology. Students can expect to spend time in lectures and lab settings. The program length varies, but most students complete the program within a few months. To be accepted into this program, you need a high school diploma or equivalent, complete an application for admissions and take a placement test to assess skills in reading, language and math.

    Centura College Richmond

    • Centura College Richmond has north- and south-side locations that offer an LPN program. Both of the locations' LPN programs are diploma programs in practical nursing. The program trains students in the lab and classroom setting in all areas of practical nursing, including basics (such as blood pressure and pulse), laboratory testing, giving injections, anatomy and physiology and medical terminology. Students also receive training in safety and infection control, medical and surgical nursing and child and geriatrics nursing. Expect to complete the program in a matter of months and be prepared to take a state licensing exam shortly thereafter. To enroll, contact the school and speak with an enrollment counselor, who will help you through the application process. Students need to have a high school diploma or equivalent at minimum to be accepted into the LPN program.

    County of Henrico Schools Technical Centers

    • The Richmond School District (County of Henrico Schools) offers LPN classes at two of its technical center locations: the Hermitage Technical Center (northwest Richmond) and the Highland Springs Technical Center (east Richmond). The 18-month program is a two-step program that consists of Practical Nursing I and Practical Nursing II and is offered only in the daytime. In these classes, students learn many nursing concepts in a classroom and laboratory setting. A few of the many classes that are integrated into the program include body structure and function, geriatrics, nutrition, maternity, surgical nursing and nursing concepts. Students entering their senior year in Henrico County Public Schools, adults who are employees of Bon Secours Richmond Health System or who live in Henrico County or adults living outside Henrico County are all eligible to enroll. Simply fill out an application and if you are an adult, have a high school diploma or equivalent.
