Career Training Solutions offers students a 14-month practical nurse training program. Students will complete 70 hours of training, including six clinical rotations. The clinical rotations will be in the areas of pediatric, maternity, psychiatric, geriatric and medical-surgical nursing. The program is available though day or evening classes. Students choosing the evening program will arrange their clinical rotations on weekends and the program will take slightly longer to complete. Upon graduation, students will be ready to take the national licensure examination.

There are three Centura College campuses throughout Virginia. Students can enroll in practical nursing programs at the Norfolk campus or either of the two Richmond campuses. The program consists of classroom, laboratory and clinical training. Students will learn medical basics, including terminology and anatomy as well as how to provide bedside care, perform laboratory tests, safety and infection control procedures, and much more. Once students complete the program and hold their state license they will be ready for entry-level careers as LPNs.

Danville Community College provides students the opportunity to obtain a certificate in practical nursing. The program is three semesters long and aims to prepare students for the NCLEX-PN examination. Students will complete courses in pharmacology, anatomy, nutrition, computers, psychology and nursing theory. The curriculum prepares students to become beginning practitioners.

The Medical Careers Institute at the ECPI College of Technology offers a practical nursing diploma program. Prospective students can enroll in the program at any of the five Medicial Careers Institute campuses across Virginia. Students will learn proper patient care techniques, critical thinking skills and how to communicate effectively. Once graduates earn their state license they will be able to start careers as entry-level practical nurses. Graduates can secure employment in medical facilities such as hospitals, nursing homes, physician’s offices and public school systems. They can also work for corporate occupational health providers.

Students of the Ultimate Health School can complete a practical nursing program in as little as 12 months. The program combines theory and laboratory courses to prepare students for entry-level careers as licensed practical nurses. During the program, students will also complete more than 400 hours of clinical training that will give them hands-on, real-world experience in the field of nursing. Ultimate Health School also provides a comprehensive two-week NCLEX review course for graduates to take before they sit for the national certification exam.
