    • The Central Pennsylvania Institute of Science and Technology offers a Practical Nursing program that can have students completing their studies and entering the workforce in just a year. In addition, the institute offers a part-time study program for students who need a flexible study schedule. Students learn clinical and theory experiences in fields such as behavioral science, medical and surgical nursing, maternal nursing and pharmacology that will prepare them for both the licensing exam and their health care career.

      The cost for the Practical Nursing program is $12,000 for students beginning classes during the 2010-2011 academic year. Students may work with the financial aid office for assistance in paying for their education.

    Harrisburg Area Community College

    • Prospective students looking for a college that offers multiple campuses and the option to continue their studies may consider Harrisburg Area Community College. The school's LPN program is offered at three separate campuses, Gettysburg, Harrisburg and Lancaster. In addition, the school offers an LPN to RN program for students who want to advance their degree. Once students complete the general education requirements, they advance to the clinical program to learn skills to apply in their future careers. The program requires three semesters to complete. Courses include human biology, psych/mental health, microbiology and concepts in practical nursing.

      Costs for students entering the the Practical Nursing program during the 2010-2011 school year generally are $8300 for tuition and fees. Financial aid is available.

    • Students attending the Pennsylvania Institute of Health and Technology benefit from the school's mission to give the best possible training to students in the career fields that they love. The Practical Nursing program is one of the newest degree options offered by the school and is designed to train students in the clinical and technological skills they will need to work in the nursing industry. The program can be completed in approximately one year. Examples of courses include medical terminology, anatomy, pharmacology and nutrition. Students will also receive training in material, pediatric and surgical medicine.

      Tuition costs for the Practical Nursing program are available upon request. Financial aid options are available for those who qualify.
