LPN to RN Schools in California

An LPN to RN bridge program, which is also known as an LPN to RN program, is developed for professionals who already have experience within the nursing field but wish to enhance their knowledge to become a registered nurse. Upon completion of an LPN to RN program, students will be able to take the NCLEX-RN examination and will have either an Associate of Science Degree in Nursing (ADN) or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). California offers several schools offering an LPN to RN bridge program.
  1. Chabot College

    • Chabot College is located in Hayward, California and it offers three LVN to RN bridge programs. The first of these options is the Associate in Arts Degree in Nursing program. This program requires students to take the standard nursing course sequence; however, students must also complete the following coursework: English 1A, Anatomy 1, Psychology 1, Sociology 1 or 31 as well as Speech 1 or 30. The second option is the 30 unit option, which requires completion of prerequisite coursework and a valid LPN/LVN license. Take note, this option only prepares students for the NCLEX-RN examination for California. After graduation, students can only take the California NCLEX-RN and are prohibited from working in any other state. The last option is the non-degree study course. This program requires students to take the standard nursing curriculum and upon completion students can take the NCLEX-RN examination without obtaining an ADN degree.

Applicants into any of the aforementioned programs must have a valid LVN/LPN license and have been working for a minimum of one year in a medical environment. Students must also have taken the following courses with a final GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale: Microbiology 1, Physiology 1 as well as Nursing 70L as well as Nursing L. If an applicant has not taken college level English and math courses, they must take the Chabot College English and Math Assessment, which is given at the school. As of 2010, this program costs a total of $4,500, which includes tuition fees and study materials.
