The Northern California College of Construction, located in Stockton, California, prepares students for careers in heavy equipment and crane industries. Applicants must be fluent in English and be at least 18 years of age to apply. For the Mobile Crane Operators program, students also must pass a math aptitude assessment, which is equivalent to an 8th-grade math level. Students must also demonstrate the ability, both mentally and physically, to operate equipment safely. A goal of the school is to help students pass the Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators test upon graduation.
The Deep Creek Construction School ,located in Apple Valley, California, believes that students must show their knowledge skills in the construction industry in order to graduate. They have a list of 167 skills that students need to show adequate training in. Students are expected to know the formulas for safe working load, the equipment inspections necessary for safe start-up procedures and the preventive maintenance required for shut-down procedures. About 75 percent of all training takes place on site, with the other 25 percent achieved through equipment assimilation. All students are trained on the following machinery: dozer, skip loader or grader, wheel loader, dump truck, excavator and skid steer.
The Construction Craft Training Center is located in the northern California town of Hayward. The admission requirements consist of being of minimum working age as well as the ability to read and understand both written and oral lessons and operate those vehicles common to the construction trade. The newest training available at the Construction Craft Training Center is the Solar Installer Program. Students may be eligible for funding through the state of California if they are currently not working and collecting unemployment benefits. Electrical classes are offered in English and Spanish at the Hayward campus.

Students attending Peak College will benefit from the especially design training programs, which prepares them for jobs in the heavy equipment industry and with the skills needed in basic heavy equipment operation. With an associate degree from Peak College, they can pursue careers with excavation companies, underground contractors, construction, utility contractors, landscapers, electrical, plumbing, sand and gravel pits and mining operators. A few of the degrees available are associate in occupational studies, construction management and occupational studies and construction management (heavy equipment operations).
