This school has two programs for those wishing to become an RN: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Advance to BSN. The BSN program caters to new students and recent high school graduates entering the nursing field. Students seeking to enter this program need an SAT score of at least 1000. High school students interested in the program should take courses in subjects such as biology and chemistry. The Advance to BSN program is for students who hold a bachelor's degree in any discipline and have completed required prerequisite courses. These prerequisites include introductory psychology and sociology courses, basic biology and anatomy and physiology.
This hospital partnered with Delaware County Community College to offer a nursing program geared toward Chester County residents. Interested applicants should contact Delaware County Community College admissions department for enrollment information. Students attend classes at the Rhoads Education Building at the Chester County Hospital. The program has day classes or evening and weekend classes to choose from. When students complete the 70-hour program, they earn an Associate Degree in Applied Science with a major in nursing, making them eligible to take the NCLEX-RN.
There are two programs for nursing students here: An Associate Degree or a RN to BSN program. The Associate Degree program prepares students to take and pass the NCLEX-RN test. It takes two years if you go full time and three if you attend night and weekend classes. Clinicals mostly take place at Lancaster General Hospital, but may also take place at other nearby acute care facilities. The RN to BSN program is for people already working as RNs or recent graduates from an Associate Degree program. Students meet once a week for four hours and complete the program in less than two years.
HACC has several campuses throughout Pennsylvania with one in Lancaster. Their program is an Associate Degree comprised of 72 hours. Students first apply to become a pre-nursing student during which they take prerequisite courses such as English Composition and Speech. Then, you must apply for admission into the nursing program. Not all pre-nursing students get accepted into the RN program. The program takes four semesters when attending fulltime and eight semesters going part-time. Students cannot obtain a BSN through HACC, but may find a RN to BSN program in another school.
