Accredited Forensic Nursing Schools

Forensic nurses work with medical examiners, coroners and correction officers. They are trained to conduct investigations and to identify and provide the necessary care or treatment to victims and perpetrators of crimes.
  1. Fitchburg State College

    • Fitchburg State College, located in Massachusetts, is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc., as well as numerous other accrediting bodies. The online master of science degree program in forensic nursing is provided to students with a bachelor’s degree from a nationally accredited nursing program. The program runs for two and a half years, during which time students are required to complete 36 to 37 credits of coursework. Students must satisfy the clinical portion of their training by working under the supervision of trained faculty and staff at a local facility. Nurses who are forensics specialists deliver the courses and supervise students during their clinical training. Course highlights include nursing theory, advanced clinical concepts, nursing research and an introduction to forensic nursing.

    Johns Hopkins University

    • The bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in clinical nursing at Johns Hopkins University prepare students for careers in forensic nursing. The university is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). Graduates will be qualified to work in a variety of fields, including death investigation, adult protective service and sexual assault examination. Students will receive training in the diagnosis and prevention of illness with a specialization in evidence-based nursing care. Course offerings include philosophical, theoretical and ethical basis for nursing, clinical pharmacology, and family violence. Students can choose between online and classroom instruction.

    Mount Royal University

    • Based in Alberta Canada and established in 1911, Mount Royal University offers bachelor's, diploma and certificate degree programs in a variety of fields, including athletic therapy, criminal justice, education and theater. The university is accredited by the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC). The forensic studies career builder program is a certificate training program that is available on a full- or part-time basis. Prospective applicants should have a degree or diploma from a nationally accredited institution in health, allied health, criminology or related field. Because the program is offered on a remote basis, students must meet certain technological requirements. Course highlights include forensic history, forensic science, expert witness testimony and victims of violence.
