The certificate program includes 15 semester credit hours and takes about 14 months to complete. Students must take eight examinations as part of the certificate program. An eight-week course format is also available for students who need to complete the program quickly.

The program is designed for registered nurses who wish to increase their marketability and earning potential by specialized training in forensic nursing. The forensic nursing certificate is an accelerated program that is designed to take four months. Areas of study include death investigation, forensic physical assessment and evidence collection, courtroom experience, forensic psychological assessment, interviews, report writing, crisis intervention, planning and follow-up care.
