Night Nursing Schools

College Board offers a listing of over 1,560 nursing colleges and universities across the United States. Many of these colleges and universities offer night classes for students who are unable to meet during the day for instruction. Career institutes and online schools also offer flexibility to students with time restrictions. Every state has a Board of Registered Nursing which keeps track of all nursing programs in the state, and some of them, such as Florida and California, provide a list online. For others, you may have to contact the board directly.
  1. Career Institutes

    • Career-driven schools offer nursing programs with evening classes. ITT Technical Institute has 100 campuses in the United States and offers a nine quarter course taken at night on three days of the week, four to six hours of class time a day. Students learn topics such as nursing roles, anatomy and physiology, clinical nursing concepts and techniques, mental health nursing and other subjects.

    Community College

    • Night and weekend classes are available at many community colleges that offer nursing. Flexible hours make it easier for students to earn associate's degrees in nursing. For instance, Pensacola College in Florida offers a program with an evening and weekend track with human patient simulation, case studies at nursing and residential care facilities, ambulatory health care and hospital work. The best way to find out if your local community college offers an evening nursing program is to contact their department of nursing and inquire about their flexible programs, or you can contact the Board of Registered Nursing for your state.

    Universities

    • To find universities with evening classes, you may be able to find a list online. The Board of Registered Nursing for California lists all RN programs with evening classes for associate's and baccalaureate degrees as well as entry level master's degree programs. California State University at East Bay is one university with a night nursing school. Their program runs for two years of pre-nursing requirements and then eight quarters of nursing courses with activities in hospitals, clinics, child care facilities and retirement centers.

    Online Nursing

    • Online nursing schools offer the option of working on your nursing degree at any time. AllNursingSchools provides a listing by state of all nursing schools with online programs, including schools that provide associate's, baccalaureate, master's and practitioner degrees. University of Phoenix is an online school that has a college of nursing. Their programs include undergraduate degrees for licensed practical nurses (LPN) and licensed vocational nurses (LVN) as well as a Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN). Online nursing schools provide flexible scheduling options to students who do not have time for day programs.
