San Diego State University's (SDSU) School of Nursing is among the top-100 nursing schools in the nation. "U.S. News & World Report" ranked the program as the No. 72 nursing program in 2007. The B.S.N. program at SDSU is a 4.5 year program that requires 134 credit hours for graduation. Students complete prerequisite courses in microbiology, anatomy and physiology and organic chemistry during their first two years before moving on to nursing courses and more advanced science courses. Courses of study include areas such as clinical nursing pharmacology, mental health nursing and other courses designed to teach students to care for other special population groups like the elderly.

The Medical College of Georgia's (MCG) School of Nursing is also among the best in nation (ranked No. 54 in the same "U.S. News & World Report" rankings list). The college offers a B.S.N. program that requires the completion of prerequisite course prior to matriculation at MCG. Students must complete these at another institution and then transfer into the program at the college. Students should complete about 60 credit hours in general education curriculum prior to attending MCG. The MCG curriculum requires a total of 66 credit hours of coursework and 990 clock hours of clinical and laboratory work. Courses include areas such as Research and Evidence Based Practice, Clinical Nursing Care of Women, Children and Families and Gerontological Nursing.

The University of Michigan presents potential students with an opportunity to pursue a top-5 program. "U.S. News & World Report" ranked the Michigan nursing program tied for fifth overall with the University of North Carolina. Michigan offers a traditional B.S.N. degree track for students coming out of high school, but it also offers a transfer option for students from other schools and for those with a bachelor's degree in another field who want to enter the field of nursing and complete a program in the shortest amount of time possible. The degree requires 128 credit hours for graduation. Students take courses in areas like Community Health Nursing, Childbearing and Reproductive Health, Health Promotion Risk Reduction and Introduction to Research Approach in Nursing.
