The nursing program at the University of South Alabama's campus in Mobile offers students the benefits of ROTC and a nursing curriculum. Students can participate in ROTC while pursuing their nursing careers. The school also offers two, three and four-year nursing scholarships.
Students can complete a number of specialties, including psychiatric, perioperative, OB/GYN and critical care.
Washington State University in Spokane, Washington offers nursing ROTC students audio-visual classes and multi-media, research, clinical and simulation labs that simulate real-world scenarios. Students complete their first two years of nursing and three years of their ROTC curriculum at the Pullman campus and then complete their final two years of nursing and their last two years of ROTC at the school's Riverpoint campus.
Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tennessee is home to the largest nursing ROTC programs in the country. More than 50 percent of its cadets are nursing majors, and the battalion is close knit with a small student-to-teacher ratio.
The University of Delaware also has a prestigious ROTC Nursing program. In addition to an undergraduate program, there is also a master's program in which students have an opportunity to earn an ROTC scholarship.
Carroll College's Nursing program, housed at the University of Montana, offers students a paid, 28-day leadership course at Fort Lewis, Washington, during the latter part of junior year. Upon completion of this program, students can attend a voluntary nurse summer training program. It sends students to one of more than 20 training schools in the United States, Germany, Korea or Hawaii for three to four weeks.
It is a paid training opportunity, with direct experience with patients in areas such as medication administration, emergency procedures and intravenous therapy. After four years, students are commission as 2nd Lieutenants in the U.S. Army and attend officer training at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Upon graduation, students can be stationed at more than two dozen hospitals in the United States, Germany or Korea.
Students in nursing ROTC programs get advantages that students in other programs don't. They are able to combine college courses in military science with the regular nursing curriculum. In addition, there are nursing summer schools that allow students practical experience. Nursing students also compete for scholarships.
