Bronx Schools for Nursing

There are nursing programs located throughout the United States, but those who live in the New York area may need to attend school close to home. There are several schools in the Bronx that offer nursing certification and degrees. These affordable choices are accredited schools that are convenient for students from a variety of different walks of life. If you are ready to pursue a career in nursing and you want to attend school in the Bronx, you have a number of choices.
  1. Mount St. Vincent

    • The College of Mount Saint Vincent is set on a 70-acre campus that is about fifteen minutes from midtown Manhattan. It offers an undergraduate nursing program that combines science and liberal arts. Students gain clinical experience and study nursing theory, preparing them for the state nursing exam and a career working with patients. Mount Saint Vincent also offers a Master of Science degree in nursing, designed to further the education of experienced professional nurses.

    Head Start in Nursing

    • Those just getting started in their pursuit of a nursing education can begin their career at Hostos Community College in the Bronx. This small school has an expanded full-time teaching staff and offers an Associate in Applied Science nursing degree. Students complete their education in five semesters and once they have passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nursing they are qualified to work in a variety of health care settings. In addition to classroom and laboratory learning, students work in hospitals and community health care centers.

    Undergraduate and Graduate Learning

    • The nursing program at Lehman College began in 1971. It is part of the school's large natural social science department and offers both undergraduate and graduate nursing education. Students completing the undergraduate program are qualified to work as registered nurses once they have successfully completed the state licensure exam. The graduate program offers students four different tracks of study including adult health nursing, parent child nursing, pediatric nurse practitioner and nursing care for older adults. The school has partnerships with local heath care agencies and nursing organizations, so students are able to get hands-on professional experience and network while completing their degrees.

    Educating Health Professionals

    • Bronx Community College offers a well-rounded nursing program that includes both clinical experience and evening lecture classes. The program prepares students to take the Registered Nursing Licensure Examination required to practice nursing in New York state. The clinical portion of the program enables students to work in hospitals, community agencies and various health care facilities in the Bronx.
