List of Nursing Schools in Massachusetts

Massachusetts has 39 nursing programs dispersed among community colleges, universities and hospitals, as of June 2010. These programs have a variety of attendance options, including part-time vs. full-time status, on-campus vs. distance learning and fall vs. spring semester matriculation. These options allow potential applicants to choose the program most convenient for their situation.
  1. Massachusetts Bay Community College

    • Massachusetts Bay Community College confers an associate degree in nursing (ADN) in two tracks: day option and evening option. Prerequisite courses are the same for both options and include college-level English composition, algebra or pre-calculus and chemistry. Applicants must also complete the Reading Assessment Test entrance exam and obtain cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification. Day-option students matriculate in either the fall or spring and complete the program in two years, while evening-option students matriculate in the spring only and complete the program in three years.

Applicants can choose from two program tracks. The day division track takes two years to complete after admission and is meant for those students who intend to attend school full-time. The evening/weekend division track takes four years to finish and is intended for students currently employed full-time and seeking a career change. Both programs admit students in the fall only. Potential applicants must submit an inquiry form in person or at the program website before receiving the application packet via mail.

    University of Massachusetts at Boston

    • The College of Nursing and Health Sciences at the University of Massachusetts at Boston confers a bachelor's of science in nursing degree (BSN) through many program options. For new undergraduate students, it has a traditional four-year program into which students matriculate during the fall or spring. The college's accelerated track is meant for students who already have a non-nursing bachelor's degree. These students matriculate only in the summer and receive their BSN in 15 months. It also offers a bridge program for registered nurses with associate degree, which is conducts entirely online. Depending on how many previous college-level courses a registered nurse has completed, they can complete the program within one to two years part-time.
