Mount St. Mary's College, a Catholic college for women in the Los Angeles area, has an associate degree in nursing with an evening and weekend format. Women work in Los Angeles health facilities Friday through Sunday beginning at 6:30 a.m. Only women with a minimum grade point average of 2.5 overall and 2.5 in science courses are considered for admittance. The school offers pre-nursing and nursing options. There are general studies courses that must be completed for a student to participate in the nursing portion of the program.
Brookhaven College in Farmers Branch, Texas, offers a 72-credit hour associate nursing program that takes five semesters to complete. Successful students are eligible to apply to the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses. The program only accepts 50 students for fall semester and spring semester each year. The program is accredited nationally and regionally and is approved by the Texas Board of Nursing.
In Keiser University's Associate of Science in Medical Assisting program students learn in a hands-on environment under the direction of a doctor or practitioner. The program is available on several of the university's campuses in Florida. The program teaches students how to take vital signs, assist in minor surgery, give injections, assist in the laboratory, take X-rays, perform urinalysis and administer electrocardiograms as well as maintain patient records, bill and order supplies.
The Alaska's Institute of Technology in Anchorage offers a Certified Nurse Assistant Reciprocity program and a Licensed Practical Nurse program. The nurse assistant program includes 230 hours of classroom, lab and clinical experience. It's divided into four-week sessions with the first being classroom and lab skills, and the second being clinical experience. During the clinical experience, students care for patients at a nursing or assisted living home in Anchorage. Students will also gain organizational and time-management skills. The length of the course is 38 days.
