Chicago State University (csu.edu) offers a Registered Nursing program as well as a Licensed Practical Nursing program, each requiring a significant number of credit hours to graduate. CSU nursing programs require that the student has either previously completed English, biology, psychology, chemistry and math courses, or they must complete them on campus. Graduation from this program is achieved through an exit exam and no mark lower than a "C."
DePaul University (las.depaul.edu) reports that it is the largest Catholic University in the United States and has been offering a nursing program since 1948. DePaul offers four distinct degree programs related to nursing, focusing on adult nursing, family nursing, anesthesia and general nursing practice. Through classes on family and health theory, the curriculum places an importance on treating individuals as well as families while maintaining health as the primary objective.
According to Harry S. Truman College (trumancollege.edu), they are one of the few institutions that offers a full-time, two-year registered nursing program for students wishing to enter the workforce quickly. Their program is structured to give students basic knowledge in subjects -- such as English -- while still focusing on nursing theory, social and biological sciences and the care of patients. Similar to other programs, students are still required to pass an exit exam prior to graduation.
North Park University (northpark.edu) focuses on preparing students to be nurses that serve their community by integrating volunteer work and leadership opportunities into the traditional academic setting. They offer a pre-licensure program as well as the traditional registered nursing program, allowing students some flexibility in their career path. As a Christian university, they require their students to take religion based courses throughout their degree as well as the traditional social science and foreign language offerings.
