District of Columbia Nursing Schools

Washington D.C. offers a plethora of educational opportunities. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) notes that the job outlook for registered and licensed practical nurses is expected to be excellent through at least 2018. Registered nurses (RNs) can obtain their education at a four-year university or a community college that offers a registered nurse program. Those interested in helping others and the medical field can expect a median salary of $62, 450 (as of 2008), according to the BLS.
  1. Radians College

    • Radians College prides itself in being an affordable choice for aspiring nurses. Radians offers both licensed practical nurse (LPN) and RN courses. The school has small class sizes for more personalized attention from instructors. Students benefit by having plenty of time to practice their skills in the clinical setting because of the smaller class environment. The school offers payment plans and scholarships.

    Georgetown School of Nursing and Health Studies

    • St. Mary's Hall houses the school of nursing on the Georgetown University campus. Approximately 900 students are enrolled in the school's nursing programs which include undergraduate, second degree and graduate degree programs. The school has approximately 140 faculty members for the program. The school is home to a multimillion dollar research program.

    Howard University

    • Howard University offers several course offerings to students wishing to pursue a career in nursing. The advanced placement track puts students on the fast track to becoming a nurse with the complete program lasting 22 months. For registered nurses who hold an associate's degree and wish to obtain a bachelor's degree, the RN to bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) program is available. There is also a program for licensed practical nurses to obtain their bachelor's in nursing.

    The Catholic University of America

    • Since 1935, the Catholic University of America (CUA) has been providing aspiring nurses with education in health care while simultaneously emphasizing the role that spirituality plays in the health care setting. The school offers a bachelor's degree in nursing, master's degree in nursing and a doctorate program. Students attending CUA will gain experience in hospitals in the Washington, D.C. area during clinicals.
