Atlanta LPN to RN Schools

After working as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for a few years, some individuals choose to return to school for an advanced degree. After completing an Associate’s or Bachelor’s in Nursing program, these LPNs become a Registered Nurse (RN). Many schools across the country offer LPN to RN programs, which are designed specifically for LPNs. Unfortunately, Atlanta is home to only one of these schools. However, Atlanta LPNs can also pursue an RN degree through a traditional Nursing program or through an online university.
  1. Kaylim Career Institute

    • The “RN Bridge Program” at Kaylim Career Institute is a part-time RN program for current medical professionals. The program is open to LPNs, paramedics, physicians, physician’s assistants, respiratory therapists and military corpsman. The program was designed to appeal to working professionals who cannot attend a full-time RN program. The RN program at Kaylim Career Institute requires students to attend a four-hour class only once per week. Clinical rotations are held on the weekends and study materials are designed specifically for the examinations. Upon successful completion of the eight nursing program classes, graduates receive an Associate Degree in Nursing. The school also offers an NCLEX-RN review session, which helps students prepare for the national licensing examination after graduation.

    Traditional Nursing Programs

    • A variety of other universities in Atlanta offer “Bachelor of Science in Nursing” (BSN) programs. Although these schools do not offer specific LPN to RN programs, students with an LPN degree will likely find they are thoroughly prepared for entry into these programs. In Atlanta, the Georgia State Board of Nursing has approved three nursing schools: Emory University, Georgia Baptist College of Nursing at Mercer University and Georgia State University. In some cases, students with a current LPN degree will be able to transfer previous school credits into the BSN program, although each school sets their own restrictions regarding transfer credits.

    Online LPN to RN Program

    • The College Networks offers an untraditional LPN to RN program that is completed entirely online. As explained at CollegeNetwork.com, this educational organization “is an educational services and eLearning provider that enables busy adults to enjoy the pride, prestige, and enhanced earning power that comes from obtaining a college degree.” Rather than attending classes in person, students engage in online learning modules for their general education and elective classes. After attending the College Network for approximately 12 to 18 months, students transfer all earned credits to the online university, Excelsior College. Excelsior offers an Associate’s degree program in Nursing, which is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.
