Oklahoma Colleges and Universities With Soccer Programs

Oklahoma is a state known for its southern-bred, American football. Lately, the popularity of “football,” as our international friends call soccer, has seen a large increase in popularity in the southern state. Many colleges and universities offer soccer programs for men and women, and they are seeing a tremendous amount of support. Several programs are even garnering national attention, success and even championship wins.
  1. The University of Tulsa

    • The University of Tulsa, located in Tulsa, Oklahoma, offers soccer programs for both men and women, boasting their own stadium for soccer matches. Nicknamed the Golden Hurricanes, the men's and women's programs feature a 19 game season. Playing in the NCAA division I USA conference, the men's soccer program enjoys a proud history of 6 championships, the most of any sport in the university. For those interested in developing their soccer skills, Tusla offers a soccer summer camp called Mac's National Soccer School, which features coaching by conference USA coach of the year (2007, 2008) Tom McIntosh. The program caters to players from the age four to high school seniors.

    Northern Oklahoma College

    • Featuring programs for both men and women, Northern Oklahoma College provides an exceptional opportunity to enjoy competitive collegiate soccer. The college has offered a walk-on program for the soccer teams, promoting fitness and sportsmanship in the college. The men's program has seen a tremendous amount of success, battling their way to the national tournament twice, in 2003 and 2006. The women's program features a 20 game season and is home to a veteran Coach Mike Riley, since 1994. Although their program has not seen as much success as the men's, they have provided an opportunity for many of their players to move on to four year programs, achieving a higher level of play and competition.

    Oklahoma State University

    • Unfortunately, Oklahoma State University can only offer a soccer program for women. However, they have made it count; the program has only been around since 1996, but, after just a few years, they managed a Big 12 Conference championship win in 2003. The Cowgirls play a 19 game season, the first of which is an exhibition match. The team is not only proud of their athletic abilities, but also their academics. Boasting two Academic All-Americans, Yolanda Odenyo and Niccole Grimaldi, the Cowgirls are devoted academics as well as skilled players.
