Emory University's Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing is the top-rated nursing program in the city of Atlanta and the state of Georgia as well. The program was ranked at No. 26 in the nation in 2007 by U.S. News & World Report (the last year that nursing programs were ranked by U.S. News). Founded in 1905, the School of Nursing has evolved to become one of the best programs in the nation. Degrees offered include the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), a BSN for students seeking a second bachelor's degree, a BSN to Master of Science program and an accelerated BSN/MSN joint-degree program. Graduate level degrees offered are the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), the MSN in public health and nursing and the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). Second only to Emory University's nursing program in the city of Atlanta is Georgia State University (GSU). GSU was ranked No. 72 in the nation by U.S. News. Georgia State's program offers degrees at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. At the undergraduate level, GSU confers the Bachelor of Science in nursing. At the graduate level Georgia State offers a traditional Master of Science degree and an accelerated program for registered nurses. Post-master's degree certificates are offered in several areas of specialization: adult health clinical nurse specialist, child health clinical nurse specialist, family nurse practitioner, perinatal clinical nurse specialist and psychiatric mental health clinical nurse specialist.
