    • Troy University, in Troy, Alabama, offers students many degree options. Troy's School of Nursing confers degrees from the associate's level up to the doctoral level. Troy University offers students the opportunity to pursue much of their degree through distance eduction. As for residency requirements, Troy has about 60 training centers across the United States, making it possible for students to complete those requirements off-campus as well.     University of Alabama-Birmingham

    • The University of Alabama-Birmingham is one of the nation's leading nursing programs. U.S. News and World Report ranked the UAB School of Nursing at No. 26 in the country in 2007, the last year that U.S. News ranked nursing programs. The UAB program was ranked first for its clinical specialization in the areas of AIDS and health administration. The nurse practitioner program was also rated as one of the best in the nation at No. 11. UAB is the only nursing school in the state to offer a Ph.D. Other programs include the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, the Master of Science and the Doctor of Nursing Practice.

    University of Alabama-Huntsville

    • The University of Alabama in Huntsville is also considered a top-tier program. According to U.S. News and World Report, the university's program ranked No. 95 in the nation. The University of Alabama's school offers the Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and the Doctor of Nursing Practice degrees. A doctorate in nursing education is also possible. One of the distinguishing characteristics of the Huntsville program is its joint-degree combinations. Students can pursue joint degrees such as a M.S.N/M.A. combination or the M.S.N in conjunction with an Ed.D. degree. Several post-master's degree certificates are offered for nurses who want to continue their education beyond the master's degree but not necessarily enter the doctoral program.
