Degrees offered in an online format are the Master of Education (M.Ed.) in education administration, education media, reading specialist and special education. A Master of Science degree is also offered by the university in the area of instructional design and development. Outside of the field of education, the university offers a number of nursing degrees for registered nurses that desire to continue their education. The program allows students to pursue their Bachelor of Science (BSN) or Master of Science (MSN) in nursing, depending on their current education. The University of Northern Alabama offers students in the state a third option for pursuing an online degree. The university's online programs are divided among three primary disciplines: sociology, nursing and business. In the field of business, Northern Alabama offers the Master of Business Administration. In the field of nursing, the university offers both bachelor's and master's degrees. The BSN degree is offered in both the traditional and accelerated formats. The Master of Science degree has two primary areas of emphasis: leadership and administration or education. Gerontology and criminology concentrations are offered in the field of sociology as well for students pursuing a bachelor's degree.
