Some schools offer an associate's degree in sonography. Online programs include Jackson Community College, which offers an Associate's of Applied Science (AAS) in General, Cardiac and Vascular Sonography, as well as Mountain State University, which offers an online Associate in Science degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography. The Mountain State University program focuses on the abdomen, specifically obstetrics and gynecology. Students must first complete all prerequisite courses, which include anatomy and physiology, algebra, medical terminology and physics. In addition, Mountain State University requires students to have prior volunteer experience in a healthcare setting as well as CPR certification and a grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher. Once all prerequisites are met, individuals may then apply for acceptance into the next starting online class.
There are several schools that offer an online bachelor's degree in diagnostic medical sonography. These schools include Mountain State University, Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences and Grand Canyon University. These online programs generally take two to four years to complete and include courses in anatomy and physiology, medical terminology and biology as well as clinical experience, which is arranged through the school.
