Oxford University offers three types of online course; however, none of these are Bachelor of Master degree programs. Topics for courses include archaeology, art history, creative writing, economics, English literature, history and philosophy. These are undergraduate courses lasting for 10 weeks and approximately 100 study hours. The courses are accredited, take the form of 10 units of transferable credit at Further and Higher Education Qualification level 4 of the Credit Accumulation and Transfer Scheme. Assessment at Oxford University takes place through two written papers, and students are expected to take part in online discussions with their tutors and other students.

The University of Cambridge offers a range of Internet courses through its Continuing Education department. The university runs a Credit Accumulation and Transfer Scheme, as well as giving access to a Virtual Learning Environment containing examples of the course contents. Cambridge University does not offer any totally online degree programs, but the credits earned during a course can be be transferred using CATS. The volume and level of credit transferred is at the discretion of the receiving institution.

The University of London External System offers the widest range of online courses across all academic levels. All course resources are sent to students once the application and registration process has been completed. ULES has developed a VLE which contains course materials and allows students to further develop their skills and knowledge through online interaction. There is no requirement to attend regular courses on campus. With over 150 examination centers throughout America, graduate and postgraduate qualifications, accredited by the University of London, can be obtained entirely by online and written examination in the U.S.
