LPN Programs in Las Vegas

Under the direction of a physician, licensed practical nurses (LPNs) care for sick or injured patients in health care facilities, doctor's offices or hospitals. LPNs have a variety of responsibilities and roles within a health care setting. They perform laboratory tests, give injections and assist with patients' personal hygiene. Other experienced LPNs supervise and train nursing assistants. Most training programs for LPNs last about a year. Community colleges and vocational schools offer a majority of the LPN training programs in Las Vegas.
  1. College of Southern Nevada

    • The LPN program at the College of Southern Nevada provides both classroom instruction and clinical practice. Students learn health care fundamentals regarding adult health, family health and mental health. Upon completion of the required courses, students receive a certificate of achievement and are then eligible for licensure as a practical nurse.

      Students interested in admission to the program at the College of Southern Nevada must meet certain selection criteria. For example, students must have a high school diploma or GED, as well as have specific health care and community service experience. Students also must pass a pre-admission exam. Once admitted, students take a variety of science courses including biology and medical terminology. Students can complete the program in four semesters.

    Apollo College

    • Apollo College offers a medical diploma program in practical nursing. The program provides students with the practical skills and knowledge for entry-level positions in a health care setting. The practical nursing program offers classroom training, theoretical learning and clinical experience in a variety of nursing disciplines. Upon completion of the program, students are eligible to sit for licensure or transfer to more comprehensive nursing programs such as associate's degrees or bachelor of science degrees in nursing. Graduates also receive employment assistance through the college's placement services. Employers can request recommendations from the college to hire recent and previous graduates.

    Kaplan College

    • Kaplan College in Las Vegas offers a practical nursing diploma. The program provides hands-on laboratory training and lectures that assist students in acquiring the knowledge to complete their nursing responsibilities. The practical nursing program teaches students to provide basic bedside care, take vital signs, perform lab tests and record food and fluid intake. Students can complete the program in one year.

      Program admission requires that students be at least 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or GED. Kaplan offers several options for paying for the nursing program. Students may take advantage of work-study programs, grants and student loans. Kaplan's career services department also assists students with career planning as well as additional job placement services after graduation.
