Broome-Tioga BOCES was founded in 1954, and has provided educational programs to students for over 50 years. There are over 100 programs offered, including one for license practical nursing, with classes are available in the daytime. Upon completion of the LPN program at Broome Delaware-Tioga BOCES, graduates are eligible for licensing in New York State.

    Genesee Valley BOCES School of Practical Nursing

    • In western New York, at the Genesee Valley BOCES School of Practical Nursing, located in Batavia, New York, students must complete coursework that consists of a total of 1,200 clock hours in preparation of the LPN license exam. All applicants to the Genesee Valley BOCES School of Practical Nursing must submit a two-page essay stating why the student wants to become a nurse as well as take an entrance examination. The actual program is made up of two semesters with five courses in the first, and eight courses in the second. An overall grade average of 80 percent must be maintained at all times. The program is offered through the Genesee Valley Educational Partnership.

    Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing: LPN Certificate Program

    • Graduates of the LPN Certificate Program at Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses. There are a total of three semesters in this program and courses include biology of the human organism, developmental psychology, and English composition 1. Upon completion of the program, 37 credits would be earned. The ratio of theory to clinical lab hours is one to three, which essentially means that more time is spent in clinical settings than in the classroom where theory lessons are conducted.
