The College of Nursing at New York University offers students the opportunity to obtain their undergraduate degree and continue to the graduate degree program if desired. Graduates receive a Bachelor of Science in Nursing which can be completed in four years. Students must complete both general education coursework and core nursing classes, as well as participate in clinical practice. Training is provided in the fields of nursing practice, nurse-patient interaction, adult health nursing, maternity nursing, pathophysiology, pharmacotherapeutics and leadership and management in nursing. The Columbia University School of Nursing program offers a combined Bachelor's and Master's degree program for prospective nurses who already hold a four-year degree in a different field. The program combines classroom education with clinical practices throughout New York, and allows students to choose a specialty field during the Master's degree program. Students receive training in pharmacology, nursing practice with children, physiology, advanced practice nursing, mental health nursing and nursing practice with adults. Students attending the Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing have the option to choose between a standard RN program, an accelerated RN program for those who have a degree in a separate field and a combined Bachelor's and Master's degree program. The university is adjacent to hospitals such as Bellevue Hospital, NYU Medical Center and the VA Hospital, providing a student with the opportunity to work in a hospital setting during her clinical practices.
