Registered Nurse Programs in New Jersey

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that registered nurses make up the largest portion of the occupation, with 2.6 million jobs as of 2010. Registered nurses, commonly referred to as RNs, need a minimum of an associate's degree or diploma in nursing from an accredited program in order to take an examination and become licensed. New Jersey offers a number of RN programs approved by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, or NLNAC.
  1. Christ Hospital School of Nursing

    • Students at Christ Hospital School of Nursing can complete the RN program in either a day or evening division. The curriculum consists of courses taken at Hudson County Community College, such as anatomy, English, psychology, algebra and microbiology, and nursing clinical courses taken at Christ Hospital. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and also must have completed a high school or college chemistry course. Admitted students must be certified in CPR and complete a criminal background check in compliance with New Jersey Board of Nursing regulations.

St. Francis Medical Center School of Nursing

    • St. Francis Medical Center's School of Nursing offers three program tracks for aspiring RNs. The generic track is two years in length and prepares students with no prior health care experience to enter the nursing field. The extended program is designed for students who cannot attend nursing school full-time; students have five years to finish the extended program. Licensed practical nurses (LPNs) can apply to a transitional program which can be completed in ten months. Students in all tracks must meet general admission requirements. These include holding a high school diploma or GED, completing high school or college chemistry, and earning a national average score on the Nursing Entrance Test. Applicants also submit three references and, if invited, complete an in-person interview. Accepted students must pass a drug screen and background check, along with obtaining CPR certification.
