Technical Colleges in Georgia for Medical Transcription Training

The medical field is one in a constant state of growth. Positions are always available at different levels, and training can be undertaken for very specific jobs. Medical transcription is one of these, and it is a field that can be entered relatively quickly with the right training. In Georgia, there are a number of technical schools that teach medical transcription skills.

    • The Atlanta technical college offers degrees and certificates in a wide variety of fields. The program that offers medical transcription training is called the Medical Language Specialist program. It not only teaches students about medical transcription, but also about proofreading and report analysis all while applying medical terminology and computer application skills. The requirements for admission are being at least 16 years old and having either a high school diploma or a GED. Forty-three credit hours are required for graduation, pulled from classes that include Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Terminology, Medical Document Processing/Transcription, and Human Diseases. The school also offers job placement assistance for graduates.

    Southern Crescent Technical College

    • The Southern Crescent Technical College was recently formed in July 2010 from the merger of Flint River Technical College and Griffin Technical College. Out of the programs offered here, the one that offers medical transcription training is the Medical Language Specialist certificate program. It requires 43 credit hours to complete. Some of the core courses needed to obtain the certificate are Anatomy and Physiology, Introduction to Microcomputers, Medical Terminology, and Medical Document Processing. This certificate is only available at the campus in Griffin College, and can be paired with a Georgia Work Ready certificate, which enhances the ability for graduates to find stable employment after graduation.

    Altamaha Technical College

    • Altamaha Technical College is another choice when it comes to medical transcription training. It also offers a Medical Language Specialist certificate, offering courses in Document Processing, Medical Terminology, Business English, Medical Document Transcription, and Anatomy & Physiology. Students entering the program must be at least 16 years old and hold a high school diploma or a GED. This school has an excellent job placement program, with 97.9 percent of its graduates finding a job after obtaining the certificate.
