Three Georgia colleges offer forestry programs, including the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources at the University of Georgia at Athens. Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and Dalton State College also offer programs in forestry. Dalton State offers both an Associate of Science in Forestry degree and a Bachelor of Science in Forest Resources degree. The University of Georgia offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees in forest and natural resources that encompass eight programs, within which 31 fields of study are available. Abraham Baldwin offers both associate and bachelor's degree programs in forestry.
The University of Georgia at Athens offers three areas of emphasis on wildlife, including pre-vet wildlife, wildlife or fisheries. Its programs focus on helping students become certified wildlife biologists. The program falls under a broader llist of environmental programs that include environmental health, toxicology and forestry programs. Abraham Baldwin also offers degrees in wildlife management and wildlife technology.
Students must complete the basic courses for the college they choose. Basic classes include English, history, math, humanities and fine arts courses. Classes associated with wildlife and forestry often include biology, botany, physics, chemistry, advanced math and physical education. You may also need to take courses in mammalogy, ornithology, conservation, animal behavior and habitat management.
All three colleges offer on-campus housing along with extracurricular activities such as intercollegiate sports and student events. Most freshmen must stay in campus housing for their first year. After that, they can choose to live on campus for their remaining time or move to private housing off-campus. Meals are provided as part of the on-campus housing arrangement.
Enrollment dates vary by college. To start in the fall, you must apply by May 1 to enter Abraham Baldwin. The University of Georgia recommends applying by October 15 for acceptance and enrollment for the following fall. For admission to Dalton State, applications must be received by July 15 for the fall semester.
