According to U.S. News and World Report's rankings for 2008, the Georgia Institute of Technology was rated as one of the best colleges for math in the United States. The magazine placed Georgia Tech as the 36th highest math program in the nation. Georgia Tech is known for its math, science and engineering departments, which often collaborate on interdisciplinary research projects. Georgia Tech offers a bachelor of science degree in applied mathematics and one in discrete mathematics. The graduate program offers a Master of Science degree in applied math and a doctorate. The master's program is an interdisciplinary studies program that has three areas of emphasis: computational sciences and engineering, quantitative and computational finance and statistics. The doctorate concentrations include algorithms, combinatorics, and optimization, computational sciences and engineering and bioinformatics.

Also ranked as one the top 100 math colleges in the nation, Emory University is Georgia's third ranked mathematics program. Emory is known internationally for many of its professional programs such as medicine, business and law. Emory's mathematics department offers three undergraduate degrees: the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science and the Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics. The college also offers joint degrees in math with a second major in computer science, economics or political science. The accelerated program allow students to also obtain their master's degree while obtaining the bachelor's degree. A collaborative program offered in conjunction with Georgia Tech allows students to obtain a Bachelor of Arts degree from Emory while obtaining an engineering degree from Georgia Tech. Graduate degrees include the Master of Science degree and the Ph.D.
