Architecture Colleges in Georgia

Architecture is a dynamic field of study and one that can prepare you for a varied and exciting career. According to the Boston Society of Architects, there are two main routes to becoming a licensed architect, one of which is an undergraduate degree in architecture and the other is a master's of architecture. Architecture can also be a lucrative field, with average salaries of around $70,000 in 2008, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. There are several reputable architecture degree programs in colleges throughout Georgia.
  1. Georgia Institute of Technology

    • Georgia Institute of Technology, also known as Georgia Tech, offers three different types of architecture degrees through its School of Architecture. According to the school's website, you may pursue a bachelor's in architecture, a bachelor's in architecture with international designator or a master's of architecture. The goals of the undergraduate degree are to prepare its students intellectually and professionally for a career in architecture. Georgia Tech's undergraduate architecture degrees usually take four years to complete, and the master's degree normally takes three and a half years to finish. Georgia Tech is located in downtown Atlanta; its 400-acre campus is home to 20,000 undergraduate and graduate students.

    Savannah College of Art and Design

    • Located in downtown Savannah on the Savannah River, the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) offers a master's of architecture as part of a five-year program. The program is accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board. SCAD is also the first school in the South to become an institutional member of the United States Green Building Council, which is the benchmark for construction of green, environmentally friendly buildings. The college has an enrollment of 10,500 students, 10 percent of which are international students.

    Southern Polytechnic State University

    • Southern Polytechnic State University (SPSU) is located in Marietta, roughly 20 miles northwest of Atlanta. The school has an enrollment of roughly 4,500, with students from 35 states and 82 countries. The university was actually founded in 1948 as a two-year division of Georgia Tech. Since then, it has evolved into an independent four-year university. Within the School of Architecture, Civil Engineering Technology and Construction, SPSU offers a five-year bachelor's degree program in architecture, which combines two years of design with three years of professional courses. The five-year degree is fully accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board.
