The practical nursing program at Union County College in Cranford is 52 credits and consists of classroom, laboratory and clinical learning. The four-semester program includes courses in psychology, biology, English, adult health, mental health nursing and child psychology. The curriculum teaches students the nursing process, communication skills, self-care, ethical practice and critical thinking.
Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED. During the PNU 190 (Nursing Concepts) class, students must become certified in CPR, have malpractice insurance and pass a criminal background check. Accepted students can apply for financial assistance.
