Pennsylvania Welding Colleges

Testing, inspection and blueprint reading are just a few of the skills taught as part of welding technology curricula at Pennsylvania colleges. Typically offered at two-year technical schools and community colleges, welding programs take less than three semesters to complete. Upon graduation, students are aptly prepared to sit for a certification examination administered by the American Welding Society at designated test sites throughout the state of Pennsylvania.
  1. Harrisburg Area Community College

    • Established in 1964, Harrisburg Area Community College is a public two-year college in Pennsylvania's capital city, Harrisburg. Today more than 20,000 undergraduates are enrolled in diploma, certificate and associate degree programs at the college. Harrisburg's academic catalog includes several industrial technology-related programs in areas such as fire science, HVAC and metalworking, in addition to a certificate program in welding technology. Graduates of Harrisburg's welding certificate course are prepared for careers as machine operators, repair technicians and welding helpers. The curriculum includes courses such as pipe welding, blueprint reading and technical math, as well as a required general-education course in English or writing.

    Westmoreland County Community College

    • Westmoreland County Community College is in the rural southwestern Pennsylvania borough of Youngwood. Founded in 1970, the two-year public community college features diploma, certificate and associate degree programs as part of its academic catalog. Westmoreland offers two academic options for students interested in pursuing studies in welding engineering technology. The college's associate in applied science in welding engineering technology is a four-semester program and requires that students complete courses such as welding metallurgy, welding equipment and metal fabrication, in addition to general education coursework. Alternatively, Westmoreland's two-semester certificate program in welding has no general education requirements.

    Northampton Community College

    • Northampton Community College is a public college in the suburban eastern Pennsylvania city of Bethlehem. Founded in 1967, the two-year community college grants associate degrees in programs ranging from accounting to word processor specialists. Northampton offers an associate in applied science degree program in welding. Students are required to complete 10 courses as part of the specialized diploma program curriculum, including welding symbol applications and four welding processes courses. Classroom study is supplemented with lab projects and welding experience at a nearby testing site. Students can complete Northampton's welding program in less than three semesters.
