This private women's college is known as one of the "Seven Sisters," a group of women's colleges so named because they were parallel schools to the traditionally male Ivy League colleges. Founded in 1885, this college was, according to their website, the first women's college to offer graduate degrees up to a Ph.D. With about 1,700 students as of 2010, the school offers an academically rigorous environment, and has agreements with three other colleges to cross enroll at courses that may not be offered at Bryn Mawr. The campus sits about two miles from Villanova.

As of 2010, about 900 students attend this Catholic college, which lies about 1.5 miles from Villanova. Due to its small size, it has entered into agreements with nine other colleges in the Philadelphia area, including a few other Catholic institutions. The college offers bachelors and masters degrees and has joint programs in nursing, dentistry and medicine with three other schools.
