Women's Colleges in Pennsylvania

Women's colleges, called seminaries, were established in the early 1800s to fill an increasing demand from women who wanted to obtain an advanced education during a time when institutions of higher education were not admitting them. Most historically women's colleges today are private and have a curriculum designed for women, although many of the courses are taught by men. Many of Pennsylvania's women's colleges offer bachelor's and master's degrees and sometimes doctorates.
