Founded in 1891, Drexel University is a private four-year university in the Pennsylvania metropolis city of Philadelphia. The university hosts both undergraduate and graduate programs of study within more than a dozen colleges and schools. Housed within the Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design, Drexel's film and video baccalaureate program is designed to prepare students for dynamic careers in film and video production. As part of the four-year program's curriculum, students are exposed to various film formats and engage in interdisciplinary study. Drexel's undergraduate film program culminates with a final senior project. Only a limited number of freshmen are accepted into the highly competitive program each year.

Bucks County Community College's main campus is in the metropolitan Philadelphia borough of Newtown. Established in 1964, today the two-year public community college hosts certificate and associate degree programs in the arts, mathematics and behavioral science, among several other areas of study. Aspiring filmmakers can matriculate into Bucks' associate degree program in cinema/video production. The four-semester program is a transfer major, and is designed for students that intend to later pursue advanced education in the field. The curriculum includes courses like Digital Editing, Media Scriptwriting and Video Field Production, in addition to a host of electives. Students enrolled in Bucks' cinema/video production program are also required to complete core general education coursework in English and communication.

The Art Institute of Pittsburgh is a proprietary college of art and technical school in the large Pennsylvania city of Pittsburgh. The four-year college also has campuses throughout the country. The Art Institute's Associate of Science in Digital Filmmaking & Video Production takes less than two years to complete. The curriculum includes courses like Digital Cinematography and Scriptwriting and Lighting, in addition to general education courses like College Math and Speech. Students must also create a portfolio showcasing production, directing and video-editing skills as part of program requirements. Upon graduation, Art Institute film graduates are aptly prepared for entry-level positions in lighting, production and even business facets of the film and television industries.
