Chicago's Illinois Institute of Art is part of the national network of Art Institutes schools around the country. In addition to coursework in design, fashion and other creative fields, the institute features a baccalaureate degree program in Digital Filmmaking and Video Production. The comprehensive curriculum equips students with skills in cinematography, editing, communication and other video production skills that will help graduates secure entry-level positions. Required courses include Fundamentals of Editing, Scriptwriting & Storytelling and Intro to Digital Filmmaking, in addition to a host of general education courses like English and Effective Speaking that help develop a well-rounded educational experience. DePaul University features two distinctive undergraduate academic degree programs in video production related studies. Housed within the College of Communications, DePaul's Media and Cinema baccalaureate program is all-inclusive and not only features workshop courses like Documentary Production and Digital Cinema Production that train students in video production techniques, but also a breadth of courses like Topics in Television Studies and History of Broadcasting that offer further insight into visual mediums. DePaul's College of Computing and Digital Media School offers a baccalaureate program in Digital Cinema, which is steeped in teaching in innovative filmmaking techniques. Students can select concentrations in screenwriting or the Standard Concentration, which lends more focus to cinema history and theory.

The University of Illinois at Chicago's School of Art and Design offers a modest selection of video production classes through its Moving Image program. Students can develop animation and graphic techniques for motion pictures in courses like Motion Graphics. Taking a more artistic approach, the Moving Image introductory courses focuses on avant-garde filmmaking methods.
