LaGuardia Community College, in west Queens, prepares students for further educational achievement, as well as employment, by offering extensive research and internship opportunities. Areas of study include accounting, physical science and musical composition. Community service projects for social organizations are focused on the local neighborhood of Queens. The college provides daycare service with an onsite childcare center. In 2004, LaGuardia was named the Best Practice College according to the MetLife Foundation, and it is the recipient of several awards given to community colleges with outstanding programs.
Established in 1957, Bronx Community College offers a wide range of programs, including ornamental horticulture, pharmaceutical manufacturing, nuclear medicine technology and animal care and management. Students can earn an associates degree or certification in more than 30 programs of study. A volunteer activity for students, Self Help and Resource Exchange, or SHARE, provides the local neighborhood of the Bronx with food security and students interact and assist those in need.
The Borough of Manhattan Community College is in downtown Manhattan. The college is Manhattan's largest and the most populated college in the City University of New York organization with approximately 22,500 students as of 2010. Students from all across the world attend BMCC from more than 155 countries. More than 60 subjects are offered at BMCC, and students can earn a professional technical degree or gain preparation for a four-year degree. The college offers study-abroad programs, direct study opportunities and internships in New York City.
