Upstate New York Community Colleges

North of the New York City metropolitan area, upstate New York features abundant geographical and cultural variety. From rural towns to sprawling cities, the upstate region has something for everyone, including an array of community colleges offering a wide range of degree programs. If you're considering attending a community college in the upstate area, there are plenty of schools to choose from.
  1. Hudson Valley Community College

    • Hudson Community College in Troy serves more than 13,000 students. The school was founded in 1953 and today has more than 70 degree programs for students to choose from in four schools: the School of Business, the School of Engineering and Industrial Technologies, the School of Health Sciences and the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Hudson students have the opportunity to study abroad in more than 75 programs in 31 different countries. The tuition for full-time students for 2010 was $1,555 for New York state residents and $4,650 for out-of-state students.

    Maria College

    • Maria College, located in the state capital of Albany, is a two-year community college that offers a wide range of degrees for students. Students can earn an Associate of Science, an Associate of Arts or an Associate of Applied Sciences degree in one areas of study ranging from accounting to early childhood education to nursing. The school also offers certificate programs in several career fields, including gerontology and paralegal. As of 2010, tuition was $4,500 per semester for full-time students.

    North Country Community College

    • North Country Community College is located in Saranac Lake. The school is nestled in the Adirondack Mountains and is the only school whose campus lies within the Adirondack Park. The college offers students the opportunity to earn an Associate of Arts, an Associate of Science or an Associate of Applied Science degree. Areas of study include health care programs, liberal arts, business, criminal justice and more, and the college often adds new programs to give its students more choices. NCCC also offers several one-year certificate programs, including office technology and computer graphics and design. Fall term tuition for 2010 was $1,830 for residents and $4,550 for out-of-state students.

    SUNY Orange

    • SUNY Orange is part of the State University of New York system, a system of colleges in New York State and the largest group of higher learning institutions in the world. SUNY Orange is a two-year school located in Middletown, New York. The college serves more than 6,000 students and offers an array of degree and certificate programs in health care, technology, business and other areas of study. As of 2010, tuition was $1,850 per semester for New York residents and $3,700 per semester for out-of-state students.
